Swim Lessons for All Ages and Abilities

Lessons for adults, teens, and children looking for a quiet, comfortable setting to develop a love of the water. Swimming is more than a lifesaving skill, it’s a steppingstone to feeling free in the water. Free to swim, snorkel, dive, boat, and play anytime, anywhere, in any body of water in the world!

Lessons are hosted in our backyard Endless Pool which is 8 feet wide, 14 feet long, and 4 feet deep. There is a current unit that can be set to any speed to swim with or against to improve comfort and confidence in moving water.

Book a 15 minute session for your littles to start building confidence and skills through water play or 30 minutes sessions for 1 to 3 children of similar ages and abilities.

Are you ready to start swimming places? Whether a triathlon, open water swim, or your next swim vacation, I can help you feel comfortable and confident in your body in the water so that you can achieve your goals. We will keep joint mechanics in mind so that you can swim with ease for the rest of your life!

Upcoming Clinics

Are you ready to take your swimming to the next level? Join me at Whiskeytown Lake in Redding, California on June 29th from 9:00-11:00 AM. If you’re ready to take your skills to the open water and want to discover how to swim further with ease, join us! In this two hour clinic we’ll explore proper joint mechanics as well as learn cues that you can bring to your practice to find more ease and efficiency in the water.

Virtual Coaching

Swimming is a mindful sport. It requires awareness, micro refinements, and developing muscle memory to improve. This requires commitment and dedication to discover, hone, and train your body to make each stroke count. This is work that you have to do – a coach yelling at your from the deck can’t do it for you.

In fact, your coach can be anywhere!

My philosophy is to guide you to swimming aware through a mindful practice. We will hone your awareness and feel for the water by analyzing your stroke and determining the next step to gain efficiency. With an emphasis on anatomically correct technique, we will reduce your chances of injury.

Once you have sent footage, jump on board with the IW Technique Focused coaching program to invest in your longevity as a swimmer. Both in years and miles!

To date I have worked with clients across at least 4 countries and many states/provinces. I’ve had great results with the CoachNow application for staying connected and providing quick feedback on uploaded videos.

Connect with me to discuss your swimming aspirations and we will work together to create a package that works for you. Or set up a virtual coaching session to get started today!

Freestyle Fundamentals

Tune your acuity to finding efficient shapes in the water.

The fundamentals are for everyone! New swimmers walk through skills that build on each other to gain comfort and confidence while experienced swimmers get a fresh perspective and a simplified understanding of the fundamental building blocks of the freestyle stroke.

Offered virtually, both as a self paced course, or with a small cohort, swimmers will cover each of the skills needed to swim efficiently, as well as the neurobiologically proven method for making change stick.

Virtual works because you are the one that needs to change. Nobody standing over you on the pool deck can do that for you. By taking time to focus on your body in the water and feel the water on your body, you will discover that you can finally make progress.

No matter when you learned to swim, you have developed a series of habits that your body performs when you hit the water. As your guide, I will help you realize your existing patterns and teach you how to rewire your brain.

Each week, you will learn a new skill through written description, dryland demonstrations to introduce the muscle memory, and clear instruction on how to take your learnings to the water. Once the skill is introduced, you will take it into full stroke swimming (rather than lengths of drills), because this facilitates the integration of knowledge by understanding the movement in the context of your whole stroke, rather than in isolation. With deliberate practice, the skills become ingrained.

But change is hard.

This is not for the faint of heart.

You need to step away from your squad or masters team for a period of time. You need to commit to at least 6 weeks of training your brain (your body will come along for the ride).

Yes, this is an investment.

The investment helps you commit.

You get access to foundational skills that you can explore for the rest of your life.

Invest in transforming your stroke so that you can swim for the rest of your life.

How to Capture Video for Analysis

Need some input on your technique? Even just 20 seconds from above the water is enough to point you in the right direction.

Ideal footage includes views from several angles, both above and below the water.

No waterproof camera or GoPro? Use a waterproof case like this or a ziplock bag, for your phone.

For optimum feedback, gather footage from the following angles:

  • Underwater
    • Swimming directly toward the camera
    • From either side
  • Above Water
    • Have someone stand at the end of a lane and swim towards them from the opposite side of the pool
    • Have someone stand in one place and move the camera as you swim the length of the pool.

Email me at shannon@intrepidwater.com to arrange file transfer, and schedule a time to meet and review your stroke together!

I look forward to seeing you swim!

I got feedback, what now?
