Find Refuge in the Water
Last September I turned 50. I thought that I was handling “middle age” just fine – until I had to pull out the reading glasses that I reluctantly purchased – I broke down crying.
But that’s just one piece of it.
The swim studio project I have been pouring myself into has been dragging out, tangled in unexpected regulatory hurdles and unforeseen expenses. Every step forward seems to come with a new roadblock.
And beyond my own struggles, there’s the flailing economy, a toxic political landscape, and a technology takeover that keeps us perpetually connected yet somehow more isolated.
We need swimming more than ever.
Water offers a rare refuge—for our kids, our teens, and ourselves. No emails mid-lap, no notifications pulling us away. The moment you slip beneath the surface, the weight of it all lifts. There is no to-do list in the water, no news cycle demanding your attention, no expectations to meet—if you allow it, there’s just breath, sensation, movement.
What feels heavy in your life right now? What would it be like to let it dissolve, even for a moment, in the rhythm of the water?
If this kind of escape speaks to you, maybe it’s time to step in. The water is waiting.
